The Utz family, like the Summers, emigrated to the
United States from Wuertemmberg in the 1700's.
Also like the Summers, they settled in the Shenandoah
Valley of Virginia prior to emigrating to southern
Indiana in 1818. These two families, along with the
Baker's and the Engleman's, had close associations
in Virginia and migrated to Indiana together. Elizabeth
Utz, born in Indiana after the migration, married Joseph
Summers who was one year old when the migration
occurred. The surname Utz may have had the same
origination as the "Ott" name, but there is no known
connection between these two families in Germany.

They lived near Lineberry or Lineboro, Baltimore County, Maryland on the southside of the Great Falls of Gunpowder. When Henry died about 1789, Barbara married again and the family moved to Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. By 1820, Conrad and Adam were living in Indiana.
